Privacy Policy
Life in UK Practice for Android · Last updated: 23 October 2026
This policy explains how the Life in UK Practice app for Android phones and tablets ("the app"), called "Practice: Life in UK Test" (followed by the year) on Google Play, handles your information. The iPhone and iPad app has its own privacy policy. In short, the app does not collect any personal data.
Who we are
The app is published by Steady Lamp Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales, company number 17533499, which is responsible for the personal data described here. Registered office: 128 City Road, London EC1V 2NX. Contact: support@steadylamp.com.
Information we collect
None. The app has no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking, and it has no network code of its own: it doesn't send your information to us, or to anyone else apart from Google Play as described under "Purchases and subscriptions".
If you choose to email us, for example with "Report a problem" under a question, your email app sends us your message, your email address and the details it shows (such as the question's ID and the app and Android versions). We use them only to reply and to fix the question, and we don't share them.
Information stored on your device
To work, the app saves the following only on your device:
- your answers, study progress, saved questions and mock test results, and how your real test went if you tell the app;
- your settings, such as your test date, reminder time and haptics preference;
- whether you have Full Access.
This data never leaves your device, apart from your progress (everything in the first point above, and your test date) being included in Android's backup to your Google Account, and in a transfer to a new phone, if you use them. Your other settings and your purchase status aren't included. You can clear your progress at any time with Settings → Reset all progress in the app (it keeps your test date and how your real test went), or remove everything from your phone by uninstalling the app. Android's backup is kept in your Google Account, under your own backup settings.
Purchases and subscriptions
In-app purchases and subscriptions, including renewals, cancellations and refunds, are handled by Google through Google Play. Neither the app nor we receive your payment details. The app uses Google Play Billing, Google's library for purchases, to ask Google Play what you've bought, only to unlock Full Access; the library may also send Google technical information about purchase requests (diagnostics). When the app asks whether you'd like to rate it, the rating window is Google Play's, and the app never sees your rating or review. Google gives us sales reports (for example the order number, what was bought, the price and the country), which we use for our accounts and, if you ask us, to help with a purchase. Google's handling of all this is covered by Google's Privacy Policy.
Notifications
If you turn on daily reminders, the app schedules them locally on your device with Android's alarms. No push notification service is used and no data is sent anywhere.
Why we use your data and how long we keep it
- Emails you send us: to answer you and fix any problem you report, which is in our legitimate interests (and yours). We keep a conversation for up to 12 months after it ends, then delete it.
- Google's sales reports: to keep our business accounts, which the law requires (legal obligation). We keep them for as long as HMRC requires, generally at least 5 years after the 31 January filing deadline for the tax year of the sale.
Your rights
You can ask to see the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, or object to our using it: email us at support@steadylamp.com. Everything else stays on your device, under your control. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Children
The app is a general study aid and doesn't knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the "last updated" date above. If we ever start collecting data, we'll update the policy and the app's Data safety section on Google Play before doing so.
